Of Kings and Men
“Clansmen or Clanners tends to be the general way to refer to the middle and highest members of the feudal hierarchy. They perform leadership functions for the most part – leading guardsmen, armies, orders, churches and various Houses. However, they also serve other important functions – overseeing tax collection, managing city and township finances, administrating cities, towns, castles and freeholds.
They are allowed to hold land including towns and cities, in return for raising levies during war and paying taxes to the Lord of the Clan or their superiors. They are given almost total freedom and the Clans view leniently upon their vassals so as to not make them separate and join other clans. "
