Of Kings and Men
“Guilds are a common sight in cities and townships throughout the lands. They are mostly conglomerations of various labourers – such as armourers, blacksmiths, chandlers, glass-blowers.
Some guilds are of a more sinister nature and can even become criminal syndicates that spread throughout many townships and cities. Violent guild wars are quite rare still, but that number is ever increasing in various cities throughout the continents.
Most guilds are subject to being ruled by the Craft Houses, who demand taxes and produce from the guilds, in return for protection and their autonomy.
Some townships, cities, and freeholds allow for free guilds to exist, mostly in Clan Talis, which takes a lenient view of the feudal relationships and favour greater civilian control over production."
